Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves and Witches

Zombies bite you, you die and come back to bite (and or eat) others. It’s communicable and then you’re dead. Yum. hard to figure out how long the dead body lasts; have never seen a zombie skeleton. the emphasis seems to be on rot.

Vampires bite you and suck the life out of you. It’s a club, however. If they like you, you can be young and beautiful forever. Vampires also seem to accumulate wealth; young, beautiful and rich forever.

Werewolves: associated with the universal id; a violent monthly tranformation; sometimes it’s genetic, but more frequently you’re bitten. no immortality.

Witches seem to be the wildcard. Apparently a genetic component. They can do anything; they just need the right spell and ingredients; ie, they rule. no immortality, but they can extend their lifespan.

I think zombies represent the depressed and disadvantaged, which is a communicable disease and you don’t want to catch it. It’s also why you have to shoot them in the head.

I think vampires represent the 1%. They can invite you into their club for the young, beautiful, rich and immortal. Otherwise you’re just food, part of the herd.

I think werewolves represent the incalcuable id, that can change everything, just because it’s the unstoppable human spirit; that place in humanity that is indomitable.

I think witches are the wildcard, in touch with magic (technology, for now). I think they represent the purposeful geek.

These are archetypes around which we’re building a new narrative for our times and societies. It seems simplistic and dumb, but this is real stuff and expresses real fear, displaced onto mythical beings.
